Not actually.  The 5503 operates on 'drop sample tuning', which means that
as you boost the playback rate above the 'unity' speed (which is ~26 kHz
for the GS), it ignores more and more samples.  This gives you an effective
speed of 44 or 88 or whatever kHz, but it also means you get a fairly
heinous amount of distortion with respect to either the original signal
or even the sample data you are playing.  You also get additional distortion
from OverSampler itself, which uses linear interpolation rather than some
more accurate (but math-heavy) method.  Now of course, we could avoid all this
if someone made a nice 5506 or so card for the GS...
