        I don't know about 'average users' but I am in the $25 range
monthly for GEnie and I just monitor the A2 and A2Pro Roundtables.  SO I
bet that it isn't easy to stay under the basic monthly cost.
        There are a number of programs to get your messages, dowlaod fiels,
upload messages and get email.  I personally love using CoPilot and highly
recommend it to the IIGS user.
