//c Questions
To: mmettler@ttmath.ttu.edu
MJ>1) I have the original (?) small monochrome monitor with the stand.
MJ>This works fine, but I read in one of the //c books in the local
MJ>library that it is possible to hook up the //c to a color TV -- and
MJ>color would be nice. Feeding the video signal into a TV VHF input
MJ>didn't work (on any channel, though 3 was close). Do I need some sort
MJ>of adaptor or special hardware to do this? How do I get it to work?
You need an RF-modulator in order to hook it up to the TV set. There where
several available back in the "good-old-days" including one that just plugged
into the back of the computer w/ no "loose" wires, but I'm not sure if they
are still available....
You can check w/ a couple places to see if they have it:

MJ>2) In the FAQ, under question #25 ("How do I tell what version my
MJ>computer is"), the author suggests checking location 64447 to see what
MJ>level of //c you have. In my case, the returned value is 255, which
MJ>is supposed to indicate "a very old //c". The FAQ then mentions I
MJ>should contact my dealer for an upgrade and gives an Apple
MJ>authorization number. What's the deal here? Will this upgrade cost
MJ>me or is the authorization number to get Apple to pay for it? (And,
MJ>could this have anything to do with question #1?)
The 'upgrade' has nothing to do with question #1. The upgrade allows the
serial port to communicate at 1200 baud (and above) and allows you connect a
3.5" disk drive to the computer.
