//c Questions
I recently was given a //c by a company that considered it
trash. It works fine, but I have a couple questions:
1) I have the original (?) small monochrome monitor with
the stand. This works fine, but I read in one of the
//c books in the local library that it is possible to
hook up the //c to a color TV -- and color would be
nice. Feeding the video signal into a TV VHF input
didn't work (on any channel, though 3 was close). Do
I need some sort of adaptor or special hardware to do
this? How do I get it to work?
2) In the FAQ, under question #25 ("How do I tell what version
my computer is"), the author suggests checking location
64447 to see what level of //c you have. In my case,
the returned value is 255, which is supposed to indicate
"a very old //c". The FAQ then mentions I should contact
my dealer for an upgrade and gives an Apple authorization
number. What's the deal here? Will this upgrade cost
me or is the authorization number to get Apple to pay for
it? (And, could this have anything to do with question #1?)
Being a newcomer to the Apple family (though I used them in grade
school, I never got deeply into them), any emailed tips, pointers,
or advice would be welcome.
Thanks.
