   Looking at an ascii chart, I don't see a pattern:
. -> ,  = 2E -> 2C, or bit 2 off
k -> }  = 6B -> 7D, or a bunch of bits on
h -> x  = 68 -> 78, one bit on
i -> y  = 69 -> 79, one bit on

   Have you tried cleaning the card's gold 'fingers'? Remove the card
from the slot, then use something like Q-tips and Rubbing Alcohol to
clean them off. Dry thoroughly, and reinsert. Make sure all cables are
set cleanly.
