Viewing Lynx images

I've been browsing the WWW via our local server's LYNX interface, which 
is text based.  I've downloaded both GIF and JPG format images, but I've 
found more and more  xxx.HTML format image files.  I've tried to convert 
the filenames to .gif or .jpg, but can't get to see them.  Any hints?
