can you swap an external floppy and modem in the same card?

Hi can you use the cable conmming off the external floppy drive on an IIE with
an external Modem. I know the moden needs a serial card but since I have an
internal floppy already i Was wondering if I could use the cable for the
modem? Also does anyone kn ow where I could get a termincal communication
program (shareware) for the IIE?
