Try installing a fresh copy of ORCA in another directory, and make
sure that works OK.

You have a version incompatibility - see below.

This is your problem. GNO 2.0.x is intended to work with version 2.x
of the ORCA languages and shell. ORCA/C 1.1 is incompatible with
GNO's libraries (not to mention _seriously_ buggy). Get an upgrade to
ORCA/C 2.0.3 and your problems will go away.

Do you really have GNO 2.0, or is it actually 2.0.4?

The SHELL directory in the ORCA hierachy was added with ORCA/Shell
2.0. It replaces the SYSTEM directory.

I can now explain these as well. The installation of GNO has replaced
the Byte Works version of ORCALIB (the ORCA/C library) with the GNO
version. This library is only compatible with ORCA/C 2.0 and later.
ORCA/C 1.3 and earlier use a different startup routine from the
library, which isn't supplied in the GNO version of ORCALIB.

I suggest you reinstall ORCA/C, after deleting all files and
subdirectories in the libraries directory. You should then be able to
use ORCA/C properly from either ORCA/Shell or from GNO. You will not
be able to write GNO-specific programs until you get ORCA/C 2.0.3.
