Well, thanks to the helpful staff at Alltech, I traced the problem down
to bad expansion RAM. Oddly enough, after swapping the SIMMs around on
the OctoRAM to test each one individually, the overall problem went away,
and all the RAM checked out OK with the Claris tester. <shrug> Sounds
like when I swabbed off the card during an interim, I dislodged the
culprit (if a bit of dirt or dust could cause such problems)...

Until it happens again...
