undoubtably VRAMs, which may or may not be implemented as SIMMs  (these
are special purpose RAM chips)  Given the space considerations, I don't
think SIMMs are likely.

It would be interesting however, if the SS board has enough DRAM for you
to actually program the Z180 to do 'background' animations without having
to prompt it to read the GS RAM (and thus slow down the CPU while it DMA's
stuff all the time.  <this is faster than writing it yourself, but at 1
MHz, drawing an entire 1024*768 screen (ie. new picture) will take 0.75
seconds, which is a huge drag on CPU time>
