Joe, the "others" are right about this. There are thousands upon
thousands of newsgroups for a reason; the reason, as I understand it, is
so that

1) people can find areas to discuss topics that interest them
2) just as importantly, so people can _avoid_ topics they're not
   interested in

Now, obviously, some topics overlap the interest of many groups; hence
the crossposting feature (which is, alas, very much over-used). Just as
obviously, as discussions wander from their original topic, they might
be better placed in other newsgroups; hence the followup option (which,
surprise surprise, is heavily under-used).

I, personnally, am an Internet maniac, so I wholeheartedly support that
you cover net.topics in SS II regardless of whether you do it anywhere
else or not. (Whether a regular net.column is compatible with the
mission of SS II, I don't know. But hey, it's your magazine. :-) But you
won't do any good to anyone by breaching netiquette.
Finally - don't take an insulted man's attitude and over-implement the
rule. In other words, if people ask about difficulties using ftp, of
course you can mention ncftp, or if people ask about finding resources,
sure you can describe lynx. Or, if anyone talks about WWW-resources or
other net.tools, naturally you can list the newsgroups that deal with
these (you can, right? ;-) FWIW, I can't, but I have a reasonable idea
of how to find them). But, long-winded articles on net tools that have
nothing _per se_ to do with Apple II's seem out-of-place in c.s.a2.
