You're right about there being something 'special' about slot 7,
specifically, it has a signal used by video-timing. But slot 6 is just
like any other slot - i.e. nothing special about it. Therefore, you *can*
write software to run a disk in any slot (including 7), but a
longstanding convention on the Apple 2-type of machines has established
the 'preferential' usage of slots for disks as being 1) slot 6, 2) slot
5, 3) slot 7, or perhaps 4. Beyond that, you're usually in terra
incognita. That said, most *well-written* programs will allow you to
specify any slot and drive - the System Utilities, for example, or
AppleWorks Classic.
