G'day All,
I've found what I consider to be a bug with Hardpressed
and have tried to get in touch with Andy McFadden
(at fadden@uts.amdahl.com) but I've been told he's no longer there.
Does anyone know how to contact him or who at westcode to contact
via email about the bug (& the email address)?
Below is the supposed bug I've found -
I've found what could be considered a bug in hardpressed
when compressing locked files. I'm using Version 1.01 (original ver 1.0
updated with the comp.bin.apple2 posted file). Yes, I've got the "Handle
locked Files" option clicked on in the preferences dialog box and have
checked the manual a few times also. I'm trying to backup my fixed hard
drive partitions onto a few 44Meg Syquest HD cartridges with 2 partitions.
If I mark a hard drive partition as marked, use any of the profiles and
try to copy all the files of another hard drive partition (using Finder)
to
the marked partition, for every locked files in any folders I get the
following error dialog box come up -
"Recieved an unexpected error from GS/OS (access not
allowed (file locked) while working on the file:
(#1304]
:New.RHD2:Meeus:date.to.jd "
However, if I unmark the HD partition, copy the folders over (using
Finder)
and then from Finder compress the folders, it works fine & I don't get any
error dialog box coming up.
Is this the way its supposed to work or a "undocumented program feature"
(ie bug)? It seems to be a bit brain dead to be able to compress locked
files already on a disk OK, but not when copying onto a marked for
compression disk.
Can anyone help and possibly suggest how I could get around this problem
(without having to unlock files, or copy then compress files - not enough
room on the syquest partition to do that). Is there any patch I could try
or will I have to wait for a later update.
I do BTW __LOVE__ Hardpressed as it is a great util!!!!
Thanks for any info or help!!
Regards,
Davo esq
