There used to be. Applied Engineering used to offer a complete upgrade
for the //c and //c+. They had a 1 meg expansion board that went in,
somwhere:). They also had a 16 bit upgrade for it. It wouldn't run any
IIgs software, but it sped the thing up considerably.
A company that has been out of business for quite some time now, known as
Applied Ingenuity, used to make a hard drive kit for the regular //c.
The kit would replace the space taken by the 5.25" drive, and allow for
the user to put the internal 5.25" into a case. The drive was called
CDrive if memory serves correctly. That company's goal was to make the
//c 100% portable. They even had an LCD screen for the //c, although the
FCC didn't approve it.
