][e / ][c monitor compatibility

Anyone:

I hace the opportunity to acquire a ][e at a good price, but it comes with 
a ][c monitor (color).  As currently hooked up, the monitor does not 
display color.

Is the monitor just hooked up wrong?

Is the ][c monitor not compatible with the ][e?

How hard is it to fix the incompatibility problem?

Or is the monitor just broken?  Or the ][e?
