Re: GS generated PostScript files - Fonts

When I read the GS/OS notes about System 6.0.1 it claimed that the Laserwriter driver had been updated to talk to Postscript Level 2 printers. I don't know if it can truely talk color to them since I don't have access to a color Postscript printer.

One of the problems with the older laserwriter drivers of GS/OS was that they didn't do a good job when printing to disk of representing GS screen fonts with Postscript equivalents. This too, is supposed to be fixed in the Laserwriter driver included with System 6.0.1, but I haven't tested it out. If you have font substitution turned on, the following fonts GS fonts will get substituted by the appropriate postscript fonts:

Monaco--->Courier
Geneva--->Helvetica
NewYork-->Times

In addtion Shaston will get substituted for a postscript version of Helvetica that is stretched and all funky looking, but is still a postscript font.

The other gs fonts that should work as postscript fonts are Helvetica, AvantGarde, NewCenturySchoolbook, Times, Courier, Symbol, Bookman, NHelveticaNarrow, ZapfChancery, ZapfDingbats...I forget the others.

GraphicWriter III strikes me as similar to Quark Express, while the Page Layout of AWGS is a bit like PageMaker. I am very used to AWGS, and like it a lot. I found PublishIt! being an 8 bit program, too confining.
