Re: Zoom modems

**I have a catalog from MicroWarehouse in which is a Zoom 14.4 Fax/Data modem
**for $189.95. I was wondering if Zoom modems are reliable and if this was a
**decent price. It's the cheapest I've seen around my neck of the woods.
**Also, what cable do I need? I have a Q-Modem 2400 modem right now with the
**standard cable hooked to my GS. I know fax software isn't available now,
**but will it implemented sometime soon? Any information would be GREATLY
**appreciated.
**Thank you in advance.

*Me and few other guys on c.s.a2 all have Zoom's VX, or VFX ( with fax ).
*And we are all happy with it. There were horrible stories about older
*Zoom's ( I think the old ones with square-ish corners ), but these new Zoom
*seems pretty good in quality. I also think these newer Zoom looks better
*than most modems out there.

*One of those PC magazines had a modem test, and while the Zoom didn't come
*out of the very top ( some expansive Motorola modem did ), it did finish
*quite well ( in all catagories ).

*See if it's possible you can buy a Mac packaged one, then it should include
*a standard Mac hardware handshaking cable, and that will work.

I can second all of this. I have had the Zoom VFX for about a year now and it
has worked very well. I have been using the MAC cable that was supplied with
the modem.
