     One of the best vendors in this area just told me that he
stopped carrying the Zoom modems because of too many problems.  My
advice is to use caution when buying a Zoom.
     There are plenty of modems at similar prices, so you certainly
have a variety of choices.  I got a cheapo GVC 14.4K v.42bis/FAX
modem that got a mice mention in BYTE back a few months ago.  I've
seen them as cheap as $175 (but you need to get a high-speed
cable at additional cost), and mine hasn't given me any trouble
on either my IIGS or my PC.  For the PC, mine even included a
FAX send/receive comm program.
