Just a few weeks ago I bought Universe Master from Econ Tech, hoping that
it would be a cool new utility just like ProSel-16. Well, a few days ago
my archives partition died out on me and I tried to use UM to fix it. I
ran the "Verify File Structure" or something like that.
The first time it ran the analysis it said there were only 3 errors.
Cool, I thought. So I repaired them, but UM said it had to ignore two of
the errors to fix the other one, and to run the analysis again. So I did,
and this time 8 errrs turned up. Ok, that's not too bad, I thought, so I
went thru the steps again, but more errors kept showing up - 496 errors,
then 4315 errors, then a whopping 11,085 errors. It also said that none
of these errors were repairable, something it had never said before.
After much time (about 8 hours of this crap I finally just gave up and
ran Mr. Fixit, and I was done with only three files lost in a few hours.
In my opinion Universe Master is a very lousy program. It has that nice
slick interface, but underneath it all it just plain doesn't work. I
purposely damaged my RAMdisk to test UM several times, and _none_ of
those times did it ever work. I am really disappointed by this product.
BTW: This was with Universe Master 1.01 running on a stock 2.8 gs with
4mb ram and an 80mb quantum HD, and system 6.01.
