Ok. First, get some thing that explains InterNet ... Zen and The Art of
InterNet would do nicely, for example.
ftp is a service that is part of the InterNet services. It stands for
File Transfer Protocol. In order to use ftp, you need INet access. In
the states, that's not a problem, I gather public INet access is
freely available and cheap over there :)
Some notes of caution using ftp: Always look around if some file already
exists locally. If you get something, make it available locally. Avoid
to get things during normal business hours.
There is also a ftpmail service, all you need to use it is e-mail access.
Make sure that your BBS is willing to let you do that, some sysops may
get angry when their users start to get mails in the MB range :)
To find out about ftpmail, send mail to ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com , Subject
whatever you like. The message body should be:
