In a prior missive, snelson@news.weeg.uiowa.edu (Steven Nelson) eloquently

I too am curious about what mechanism the "archive project" wishes to use.
I can second Brett's recommendation for the Seagate drive(s). There are
actually THREE Seagate models that should fit just fine in that empty 3.5"
drive bay:
ST-11200N SCSI-2 Fast
ST-11201N SCSI-2 Fast Wide
ST-31200N SCSI-2 Fast
The 11200 and 11201 are 3.5" HH drives, while the 31200 is a 3.5" 1" drive.
Depending on the interface hardware at grind, you may or may not be able to
take advantage of the 11201's "Wide" feature.
Of course there's also 'ol reliable, the 5.25" FH Wren picked up from
Imprimis:
ST-41200N (94601-1200) Wren 7 SCSI and SCSI-2
I also can recommend the new Quantum 1 GB drive. I'm hesistant to
recommend other manufacturer's drives (especially Conner Peripherals)
because we've had less than satisfactory results/reports with drives in
this capacity other than Seagate (usually the 41200).
If anyone wants me to post some data-sheets on these Seagate drives, just
ask and I will be happy to oblige.
(Wanders off mumbling something about in fact we have a 41200 here that we
can be convinced to sell)
Be seeing you...
