Your problem might be simply that the disk drive card has built up a layer
of oxide (same with the modem).  Have you powered off, pulled out the card,
cleaned the card with a soft erasure, and plugged it back in?  If not, try
that first.  Many times when a card seems to be going bad it actually has
a build-up of oxidation.  If you take your stuff somewhere it will cost you
about $45.00 minimum and that is what they will try first. :)
