Well, you CAN use some Finder Extensions outside of the Finder.  FE's such as Finder-Sounder, IR, Finder-View 3.0, can be used if you have something like the OpenAny or FExt NDAs installed.  These NDAs allow you to 'open' files from a
Standard File dialog and see if any of the installed extensions will handle it.

NOTE: For this to work, the finder extension needs to be in the System.Setup
folder instead of the FinderExtras folder...this means that they'll eat up memory
all the time, not just in the Finder.
