But will a SSC work in my GS? Does the built in modem port have any
advantage over the SSC? Becuase if not, I'll just get a SSC for my GS!

The most important drivers to change are the ProTerm drivers (which you've
done) and the operating system's generic drivers (.DEV3 .DEV4 usually without
GNO and .ttya .ttyb with GNO)
