There are a couple of things that I would try.  First, try setting the IIe
Card Control Panel to normal speed rather than fast.  Second, I would make sure
that your type-ahead buffer is set to off.

If that doesn't work, then make sure that Easy Access (a Mac Control Panel)
is set to off.

If those don't work, then perhaps they will lead you in a direction that does.
