I will take a picture of the two failed parts from my PSUs - one split
down the side and the other popped its top. In my case, in the IIe the
smaller 0.1uF cap failed while in the IIgs the larger 0.47uF did. The
smaller cap in the IIgs PSU was not an X2 rated part but a Y rated one
which I was unable to locate so I left it alone. When the (platinum)
IIe went bang I replaced both caps.
The replacements are yellow plastic and were not very expensive (less
than A$5 each) so I bought a few.
I wonder if you have less trouble in 120VAC countries than in 240VAC
ones? The voltage ratings seem very close to the line voltage here.
