That step works because it's using the (relatively slow) built-in
Apple ROM input/output redirection through your serial port. After
that, things are going to get wonky, as you found out.

ADTPro is closely tied to hardware serial ports to get at the highest
baud rates they support. Your 7710 isn't closely related enough to
the SSC to allow it to work.

Yep, ADTPro is tweaking hardware registers an listening to I/O
addresses that don't exist on your card.
ADTPro has support for what's called the "pascal entry point" calling
convention, and that's what is used when you select LASER MODEM. I
imagine there's some dim hope that the 7710 supports pascal entry
points; if it does, then the LASER MODEM selection would be the way
you'd get at them. (Make sure it's in slot 2.)

You are picking the directory, so only directories are shown.
