Re: Getting files into and out of KEGS...how?

I've done some playing around with KEGS on one of my Linux boxen lately. I had my GS's hard drive hooked up to it for a bit, so all of the apps that
are installed on it (including ProTERM) are available to KEGS.

KEGS is supposed to emulate a modem so that something like ATDTlocalhost
will open a telnet session on the host side. I've gotten that working:

tcpserver 127.0.0.1 23 /usr/sbin/in.telnetd

as root puts up a telnet daemon for local access as long as you need it. I've gotten ProTERM to connect to it, and I can list files on the host
system. It's 1989 all over again. :-)

What's not yet working is file transfer. I have lrzsz installed, but when I
try something like "sz foo.txt," ProTERM doesn't start downloading
automatically like it should. Starting the download manually goes nowhere. XMODEM doesn't work any better...it just times out.

Am I doing something wrong here? I'm going to need an Apple II (real or
emulated) running soon to write the firmware for the new beer-fridge
controller I'm working on (to no longer run it on an Apple II, but it is
6502-based). I figured emulation would keep everything I need in one box
that's already set up, but if I need to unpack and set up my IIGS, I can do
that.

The easiest method to copy II based archives such as shrinkit files is to use KEGS to_pro utility. It doesn't get compiled along with the emulator though so you need to compile it separately.

An alternative method which works for whatever file types is running Ciderpress via Wine or Cedega. Generally, Cedega works on most Linux platforms but Wine might depend on the distro you use. This is the method I tend to use the most.

Yet another method uses a HFS formatted cdrom, disk image or partition.
