Michael, I think I need another, lower-intelligence problem solving
paradigm here.   If I didn't understand how a circuit works (I don't
here) and don't have a proper repair manual for it (I don't here),
what would be the dumb-tech (me) way of brute forcing through a
problem?    Since we have narrowed down this problem to somewhere in
the switchmode converter, what would be a simple, methodical paradigm?

For example:
1.  remove each electrolytic cap and test.   Replace all or those with
bad value.   Test board, if problem still exists, then...
2.  remove each resistor???   "               "

I've never really had a guideline of how go through a board when I'm
blind, with knowing how to prioritize likelyhoods of component
failures.   I gather that electo caps are higher likelihood?
