I was just a kid at the time, but as I recall, the changeover took a couple of
months. Dealers were steering new customers to the ][+ and if you had an older
machine, there was a lot of pressure to switch, at least in the Chicagoland
area.
Fortunately, it happened before the library of Integer BASIC programs got very
large. Applesoft was very much welcomed - finally, an FP BASIC with syntax
similar to some of the other platforms. Converting BASIC programs from one
machine to another was more popular back then and Applesoft seemed to make it
easier.
Wow, thats going back when there were so few home computer users in general, we
hadn't gotten to the "my computer is better than your POS Tandy" phase yet.
