Re: Cost Whiners

I think you're confusing collectors and speculators. The former aren't
hurting anyone. Their collections are labours of love and you shouldn't
begrudge them their hobby. While you and I might not be willing to pay
such large sums for retro computers, they are. Such is the benefit of a
free market economy. As for your arguement that collecting will result
in the extinction of retro computers, it's the worst kind of hyperbole;
that spurred by sour grapes.

For those on nostalgic kicks, emulation offers an easy and inexpensive
way to relive one's (misspent) youth. The availability of such emulators
is boon to both the collect and the interloper and further weakens your
argument about extinction.

As for speculators, they're a byproduct of the free market economy that
I spoke of earlier. Parasites exist in all ecosystems and there's little
that can be done about them.

I wonder what you'll do when (if) you liquidate your remaining original
hardware. Will you sell it for a pittance to a newcomer or will you sell
it to the highest bidder (who will most likely be a collector or worse,
a speculator)? Yeah, I thought so.
