Re: netatalk + a2boot
Hi Steve,
I got ahold of Marsha actually -- via email, at that same address. She said:
""
I have been able to boot a GS using either a Gatorbox or a Farralon
EtherWave Mac ( I think, I'd have to dig and find waht model it was)
from my Linux box at the time...

Somewhere I think I wrote some documentation, especially regarding the
three files in troika-2.tar.gz
$Id: README,v 1.1 2003/01/20

troika
1.a. A Russian carriage drawn by a team of three horses abreast.
 b. A team of three horses abreast.

Copy the three files into (PKGCONFDIR)/a2boot/
In my case this was /etc/atalk/netatalk/a2boot/

ProDOS16 Boot_Blocks
Apple :2f:2fe Boot Blocks
ProDOS16 Image

The case of the file names needs to match that in
source file contrib/a2boot/Makefile.am
""
In any case, the code was in /contrib in the current non-CVS tarball of
Netatalk (which is from 2005). I have no idea if the patches were ever
fully implemented into the codebase...

Hi everyone,
Has anyone here been able to get an Apple IIe or IIGS to successfully
boot from a netatalk server using the a2boot support code? Scouring
around online a bit, I haven't spotted anything. Does anyone know who
the original contributing author is?
Works fine here for both platforms. Marsha Jackson did most of the
heavy lifting to get the boot daemon working and I merged the code into
the netatalk build. Did it ever appear in the netatalk code base? The
developers seemed utterly disinterested in adopting the patches.
It's been so many years since I've messed with it that I couldn't being
to explain to how to bootstrap the setup. If mine went away tomorrow,
I probably would not be able to recreate a working boot server - as
embarrassing as that is to admit..
The last e-mail address I had for Marsha (who I've not heard from in 4
or 5 years) is: MenaceChgo@aol.com
Can you outline (a) where you picked up the code (so I can see if it
resembles my CVS sandbox) and (b) what you've tried?
