The only Disk][ style card I have is the clone with the blown 74LS06. I'm
still trying to find one. It works fine for everything except writing. The
write enable line was cooked.

Yep. The 5.25" ones. Still the originals too :)

All great options but a little expensive for now. There are other things
which need the money far more. So I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful
solution. Good barely even comes into it.

That would be a nice solution for a start. Still getting the hardware is the
pain. I may live in a fairly large community but there is nothing useful
here. I miss the Coburg markets and the like. I could get great stuff from
there.
