The PAL Apple II's generate "real" colors within the rules of
the PAL standard. The reason for this is simply that color
artefacting doesn't work with PAL at all.
The lores modes should generate (more or less) the same
colors as the NTSC machines.
The PAL machines have other differences like another video
display ratio ("squashed" compared to NTSC) and a slightly
different system clock - but I don't think that this is affecting
the game experience.
I remember reading something about certain variances in
different mainboard revisions (not necessarily PAL) resulting
in problems reading the values of the joystick/analog inputs.
BTW: A very cool gam idea - I'm sure it would've sold by the
droves back then!
However, like with nearly all twitch games nowadays I seem
to suck playing it.
I will try again, if I get a joystick for my real machines.
