Sounds about right. Other people were probably bidding too, I know my
budget was tight on it.
From what I've read, and my own empirical observation, it seems like
that's really the Syntauri's strength. Even the generic organ presets
sound pretty good to my ear.
I've heard some sweet pads from it, very ghostly. It certainly seems to
have some ability, and credibility, as a digital synth.
I have a //e I'm going to use for the system (unenhanced) - I might seek
out a ][plus or Europlus for authenticity in images, but they fetch
decent money this side of the pond now. I don't have any paddles, I do
have footswitches.
My attempt to install in a IIe resulted in me hot-pluggig all three cards
_and_ pulling pulling the ribbon cable right out of one of the Mountain
cards... remarkably it all survived, but I didn't notice the disconnected
cable until I'd given up on the IIe and transferred everything back to my
][+ -- where it will now stay for the rest of its life.
Wow, that's a tough setup. Any reason it didn't stay in the //e? I can't
think of any reason for it not to work in an unenhanced //e, tbh.
My enhanced //e has a Transwarp, 1Mb RAM, Workstation card, Grappler and
some generic 3 x AY soundchip card (3 AYs and a 6522).
I have the manual translated into a plain text file on my site... it
actually has a good bit of technical detail. What kind of drum machine do
you have?
I'll look that up, then. The drum machine is an Allen & Heath Brenell
Inpulse One, one of 140 made. If you follow the Audio page on my sigfile
link, you'll find a link to a Sound On Sound article I wrote about it (I
got a name wrong, but the rest is accurate).
Incredibly, I need to get a bloody disk drive; I just realised I have a
duodisk, but no controller or cable, and no Disk ][s!
Your cart is very much before your horse ;-)
I'm just too used to using a IIgs - I figured, initially, that the IIgs
(I have three kicking around) would be alright for the AlphaSyntauri,
but web-wisdom suggests not. I'll be alright with a Disk I/O card and my
IIgs floppy drives, but I want to get my Duodisk working anyway!
