Hardware wise? Nothing. going from the original II to the II+ is just
expanding the RAM and upgrading the firmware. I note that the newer
firmware is so different it's almost completely incompatible, but as I
mentioned, you can easily load the original code into the language card
and switch between them.

Prior to the (affordable) availability of the language card, you used a
ROM board with a switch on in to alternate between the two.
