But the goal of a technical image is to convey maximum information. And doing it on the web suggests a secondary objective of minimizing wasted bandwidth (I know--who cares...). So lowering the resolution cuts the bandwidth by lowering the info content, while "plaining" the background concentrates all the bandwidth on the information content. -michael Music synthesis for 8-bit Apple II's!
