Maybe they looked like that because some of them _were_ used as props in 
Battlestar Galactica?

I remember seeing a movie in the early 1980s with a scene set in a high-
tech computer control room. It was completely spoiled for me though, 
because I recognised the terminal keyboards for what they were: 
Commodore VIC20s.
