Greetings.
Up to now I've been moving files between the Mac world and the Apple II
world via ProDOS 800K diskettes and another, older Mac. (Modern Mac
connects to older Mac via AppleTalk over Ethernet; older Mac with
3.5-inch drives talks to Apple II via ProDOS 3.5-inch diskettes.) But
that option is no longer available to me, and I'm trying to get the hang
of a new system. Hopefully one that's more convenient too.
In one corner, I have a Mac G3 PowerBook, with built-in modem, running
MacOS X and Z-Term.
In the other corner I have an Apple IIc+, with a Global Village 56K
modem, running ProDOS and ProTerm 3.1.
With this hardware and software, I didn't think I needed a null modem
connector or any other utilities. I simply connected the two modems
with a standrad telephone cable -- the kind that normally connects a
phone or modem to the wall -- and tried transferring files via the
ZModem protocol, using Z-Term and ProTerm on each side.
So far this isn't working though, and after having tried every bit of
tinkering I can think of, with a heavy heart I've concluded that I must
be doing something royally dumb. That's where you people come in.
Can someone give me a nudge? I've looked on the Web for a description
of a similar arrangement, but haven't yet found anything helpful. (No
one talks about direct modem-to-modem file transfers.)
Thankee kindly.
