That's a pretty cool approach... something I'll have to try programming
on a quiet weekend. Though I'm guessing that Applesoft might be a bit
slow for such a task.

What I find really interesting is that most graphics to ASCII converters
look at the characters and source image in terms of light/dark values,
whereas what you're suggesting would theoretically yield something much
closer to a line drawing. If the resulting artwork was intended only for
Apple II viewing, then you could also use inverse and mousetext
characters which would obviously increase the accuracy.
