Bill,

After reading all the replies I went back and formatted one of my 5.25"
disks using Copy II Plus 9.0 as ProDOS and voila! I could write to this
disk.  Then going back to GSHK I was able to extract Modem MGR to old
DOS 3.3 disks I had laying around.  Before I was getting the write
protect error.

I readily admit half the problem was due to my ignorance with regards
to GS/OS not being able to write to DOS 3.3 disks.  But regardless, I
am happy now since I can read/write and format ProDOS 5.25" disks from
GS/OS.

Thanks again to everyone for all of your help!!  I am sure I will be
posting more dumb questions in the days to come since I am having some
other weird issues with this formerly stable machine.

As an aside, I do have the 1.6MB AEHD drive with the special
AEHDDisk3.5 driver.  To test it out, I just popped in a 3.5" MS-DOS
disk and formatted it for 1.6MB.  I don't have any special controller
card in my GS.  Unfortunately it does not seem to use the MSDOS.FST at
all.
