If the pins of the original processor were so corroded that they crumbled
apart, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for the OP to replace the socket
while he's waiting for a replacement processor to arrive.  40-pin DIP
sockets (and an inexpensive desoldering iron that makes removing the old
socket much easier) should still be available at nearly any Radio Shack;
failing that, they're available from places like DigiKey and Mouser.  If the
pins were corroded, there's a fair chance the contacts in the socket are
also corroded and will make fair/poor contact with the replacement.
