Don't knock 'user friendly' too much.  I remember the first time I ran a
GUI on a decent unix box - being able to have half a dozen command
windows open at once (some as shell prompts, most editing different code
files) made developing code *so* much easier.  It changed the way I
develop code, and that was about 16 years ago.

Now I hardly ever say "my computer is too slow" - I say "my monitor is
too small".

My gripe with the early Macs and the GS wasn't that the GUI was slow,
but that there weren't enough pixels.
