: Hi Bill,
:
: Here's what I've tried:
:
: 1 - IIgs -> Zip (terminated here, no other devices on chain)
: works fine
Good, that is a positive sign.
: 2 - IIgs -> NEC 4x (terminated here, no other devices on chain)
: does not work
Have you tried the CD drive without the terminator?
It might just have it's own termination. Some do.
Also, you were asked about the Tulin drivers.
Do you have those installed? From what I gathered
after searching for 30 minutes or so, they are still
being sold by Syndicomm.
: 3 - IIgs -> Zip -> NEC 4x (terminated here)
: Zip works, CD-ROM does not
Ok, so now we have established that the problem
lies with the CD drive.
: I'll have to get another cable to try the (IIgs -> NEC -> Zip)
: config. I may have to get it custom built; no one seems to
: carry the (narrow 50-pin <-> SCSI-1 25 pin) cables around here
: any more.
SCSI chains are strange animals, and I have had them in
all sorts of different orders with termination sometimes
in the middle of the chain, contrary to popular belief.
I honestly don't foresee changing the order of connection
making any difference if it doesn't work with only the CD
drive attached. BTW, you didn't tell me whether the diode
mod was done to that SCSI card. I know I had to do it on
both the Apple SCSI card and the High Speed card to get it
working on the IIgs.
: I also have an Apple CD150 drive, but I don't have a
: Centronics-style terminator or cables for it, so I can't
: swap the CD-ROM drives.
If the problem is the fact that the termination power
mod is not completed on the SCSI card, changing the
drive isn't going to make much difference. Let me know
if you have trouble getting a cable. I can send you
one and get myself another one. ;-)
