In the article on the unreleased ethernet card it said with oerhead there 
might only be a 4-8 time boot speed increase...
I think anyone with a LanceGS card probably have a hard disk already to 
boot from.
Given the price of 
a low end Mac with a 10MB and up drive running Appleshare 
vs. 
the price of a SCSI card and external drive, 
vs.
  LanceGS, ethernet Mac w/Appleshare and to date unwritten software
        (OS9.1 didn't seem to get along with my AppleShare 3.0 )
vs.
  Linux netatalk server and a Gatorbox bridge 
      ('AppleShare admin' for netatalk software incomplete )
 
The most cost effective option is probably the first.
