IIe -> mac data transfer

(forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong NG, but my server doesn't 
seem to list many active apple groups....)


the story:

a friend of mine had an old IIe he used to use a lot as a word 
processor, as he was a typical wanna-be novelist american. he recently 
died, and I took the machine home to try and salvage his notes and what 
of his stories he had written.

here's where I'm having trouble. I've searched around on the net and 
found that I'm supposed to be using a null modem cable, the problem is 
that the descriptions of the apples I'm seeing don't match up with the 
hardware I have. granted I don't know a IIe from a hole in the wall, but 
the docs say stuff like "...plug the modem cable from the Apple II into 
one side of the NULL modem..." but there is no 'modem' port on the IIe 
that I can find to plug a modem cable into. the only thing that even 
resembles a modem/com port is a cable connected to an internal card that 
trails out the back of the IIe and connects to an old printer... however 
that connector is one of the types that looks like a centronics SCSI 
connector but only 2/3 as wide... none of the instructions I can find 
tell me how to wire a connector like that (or if they do, I'm not swift 
enough to pick up on it)


FWIW all I'm really trying to do is read the 5in floppies on my OS 9 
mac... if anyone can suggest an easier way to do this, I'd greatly 
appreciate it :)



also- the IIe has it's monitor, one of those side-mount power switch 
thingys, both disk drives, joystick, and printer with some sort of 
screen-capture hardware and one-touch print button (called 
"thumbprint")... is this setup worth trying to sell?
