Looks like you posted in a perfectly good place, since it sounds an 
awful lot like an Apple II related question to me...

You need a serial card. Once you've got one of those, your mystery will 
clarify itself. An Apple Super Serial Card would be *perfect*. Talk to 
Bill Garber. Betcha he's got some for pretty cheap. He seems to be 
trying to get himself set up as the "Sanford & Son" of Apple II gear in 
these parts :) :)

With a Super Serial Card, and a Mac Serial-port to db25 modem cable, 
you'll be able to hook the two machines up with *NO* problem at all. 
Forget that "null modem" business... You'll just patch 'em together, and 
from there it's a cake-walk. That's 'cause the SSC can easily be set up 
to act as a null modem with jumpers and switches on the board. 

Once you're at that point, it's just a matter of turning on your capture 
function in whatever Mac terminal software you're running, then dumping 
the contents of the files you want to preserve out the serial card to 
the Mac on the other end of the wire. Of course, it's sitting there 
eagerly waiting to slurp up anything that comes in, and once the file 
finishes transferring, you can save it and do whatever you want with it 
using Mac software.

Believe me... it really is just as simple as it sounds. :)
