The problem with CD drives is that they read the directory
or boot tracks upon loading the disk into the powered up
drive. The are intelligent drives. when you have no disk in
the drive, it assumes a disk with nothing on it. The driver
could be patched to skip this procedure when no directory
is present, although I'm not knowledgeable enough, yet, to
do it or tell you how.
