I don't think it matters. From what I've been able to dig up the card
is designed to support 4 drives with 2 off each ribbon cable. If the
card is in slot 5 the second set of drives will appear as in slot 2.
Now I don't know if that last bit is pre-Prodos 2.0 stuff and is now
obsolete or not since I haven't had time to try it out.
Maybe somebody with the UDC manual can jump in here and let us know?

IIRC the later ROM updates were for better CDROM support.

Should be good but maybe that was also part of the later ROM updates
too.
I debated a few years back buying a MicroDrive card but in the end
decided to go with a FocusDrive instead. I'm pretty happy I did
because a) it was cheaper and b) if I do have a problem I have access
to the guy who builds them for Alltech at Syndicomm Online. Tony Diaz
is in RTC there all the time and is always willing to help with
anything. His hardware expertise is second to none and recently
helped me identify the specifics of my UDC card.
