Were you usint this computer before and it broke down or was it in
that condition when you got it? Was the computer and the monitor
together in 1 set or did you get the parts from different places? If
you have a television with a NTSC video in jack, try to connect the
//e there and see if the problem persists. If it doesnt, must be the
monitor. If it does, i suspect you might have a european apple //e.
one whose output is in PAL.
I have an apple RGB monitor (A9M0308) with an apple made ext 80 col +
RGB card (could be the one made by video 7 for apple) and I'd like to
share some problems i encountered with it. First my monitor, after
being in storage for a really long time is only displaying 8 colors
(in lo res and DHR) after opening up the monitor and getting its
logic board out (man whoever designed that layout didn't intend the
thing to be serviced) anyway.. one part of the board had a hairline
crack. This monitor isnt really RGB per-se. Its input is actually
digital TTL in 4 bit format, each corresponding to a pre-determined
color (giving a max of 6 colors) after re soldering the cracked part
and re assembling the monitor i hook it up to the //e and sure enough
it works. Since Ive been using a really old cable with it, I decided
my reward for finally fixing it would be a new monitor cable. I went
to a nearby thrift shop and found a D15 on both ends cable bearing the
apple logo. Wow, it's brand new never been used. When I got home and
hooked it up, same lack of color. I began cursing and muttering as I
proceed to disassemble the monitor again. After getting the board out
again, there seems to be no problem with it. I decide to try my old
cable and it works. Apparently that cable I got must be a RGB cable
used by early macs.
